Where is the photovoltaic cell module in MATLAB

In MATLAB, the photovoltaic (PV) cell module is available as the "Solar Cell" block in the Simscape Electrical library, which can be used to model single cells, panels, and arrays. Location of the PV Cell ModuleThe Solar Cell block is part of the Simscape Electrical > Specialized Power Systems > Sources library in Simulink. This block represents a single solar cell using an equivalent circuit model, including series resistance, parallel diodes, and current sources to simulate the photovoltaic effect.

You can drag this block into your Simulink model to start building PV systems.

Building PV Modules and Arrays

Single Cell Modeling: The block allows you to define parameters such as short-circuit current, open-circuit voltage, saturation currents, diode quality factors, and temperature effects.

P

V Module: Multiple Solar Cell blocks can be connected in series to form a module. You can mask the series-connected cells as a single subsystem to represent a PV module.

P

V Array: Modules can then be connected in series and parallel to form a PV array, allowing simulation of larger solar power systems under varying irradiance and temperature conditions.

Parameterization and Simulation

Use the Block Parameterization Manager to select or customize the PV cell parameters, including irradiance, temperature, and electrical characteristics. Simulations can generate I-V and P-V curves for single cells, modules, or arrays, and you can study the effects of shading, temperature, and irradiance on performance. For advanced modeling, you can combine the Solar Cell block with MPPT controllers, inverters, and power electronics to simulate complete grid-connected or standalone PV systems.

Additional ResourcesMATLAB Central File Exchange provides example models of PV cells, panels, and arrays that can be downloaded and used as templates for your simulations. You can also use Curve Fitting Tools to create custom PV models based on experimental data for more accurate simulations. By using the Solar Cell block and interconnecting multiple blocks, MATLAB allows flexible modeling of PV systems from a single cell to a full array, supporting both educational and research applications.
