How to add fiber optic cables to a mobile optical splitter

To add fiber optic cables to a mobile optical splitter, you need to prepare, clean, and splice the fibers carefully to the splitter's input and output ports, ensuring proper alignment and minimal signal loss. Step 1: Identify Splitter Type and PortsDetermine whether your splitter is a PLC (Planar Lightwave Circuit) or FBT (Fused Biconical Taper) type, as this affects handling and connection. Identify the input port (single fiber from the network source) and output ports (multiple fibers leading to end devices) on the splitter.

Step 2: Gather Tools and MaterialsYou will need: Fiber optic cables of appropriate lengthFiber stripper and cleaverCleaning tools (lint-free wipes, alcohol)Fusion splicer or mechanical splice kitProtective sleeves or enclosures for mobile deployment Step 3: Prepare the Fiber CablesMeasure and cut the fiber cables to the required length. Strip the outer jacket carefully to expose the inner fiber. Clean the fiber ends thoroughly to remove dust or debris, which can cause signal loss.

Step 4: Connect or Splice to the SplitterFusion Splicing: Align the fiber ends with the splitter ports in a fusion splicer and activate the splicer to fuse the fibers together. This provides the lowest loss and most reliable connection. Mechanical Splicing: If fusion splicing is not available, use a mechanical splice kit to join the fibers securely.

Ensure proper alignment and secure the splice with protective sleeves. Step 5: Secure and TestPlace the splitter and connected fibers in a mobile enclosure or protective box to prevent damage during transport or field use. Test the optical signal at each output port to confirm proper distribution and minimal loss.

Adjust or re-splice if necessary.

Additional Tips

Avoid bending fibers sharply; maintain the minimum bend radius. Label input and output fibers for easy identification in mobile setups. For mobile or outdoor use, consider weatherproof enclosures and strain relief for cables.

By following these steps, you can successfully add fiber optic cables to a mobile optical splitter while maintaining signal integrity and network performance.
