Fixing the flexible wire in the distribution box

Properly securing flexible wires in a distribution box ensures safety, prevents short circuits, and maintains organized wiring for easy maintenance.

Organize and Classify Wires

Start by using built-in card slots or wire guides inside the distribution box. Many plastic junction boxes have slots designed for different wire sizes (e.g., 2. 5mm², 4mm²).

Snap stripped wires into the corresponding slots to achieve horizontal and vertical alignment, which prevents cross friction and keeps wires neatly positioned for future maintenance.

Use Appropriate Cable Ties

For multiple wires, bundle them with flame-retardant nylon cable ties. Ensure that each bundle contains no more than 8 wires, and tighten the ties so that wires are secure but not compressed, avoiding damage to insulation. Over-tightening can indent wires, while loose ties may allow displacement.

Secure Conduits to the BoxIf using flexible conduits (metallic or plastic), select the correct connector type for your conduit: FMC (Flexible Metallic Conduit): Use a squeeze-type connector for indoor dry locations.

LFM

C (Liquidtight Flexible Metallic Conduit): Use a compression-style fitting to seal against moisture for outdoor or damp areas.

NMF

C (Non-Metallic Flexible Conduit): Use straight or 90-degree connectors depending on layout. Insert the conduit into the connector and secure it to the box with a threaded locknut. For metallic conduits, this also establishes a grounding path.

Use an insulating bushing inside the box to protect wire insulation from sharp edges. Perform a Secondary InspectionAfter connecting wires to terminal blocks, perform a light pull test by gently tugging each wire (about 5N of force). If the wire does not loosen, the connection is secure.

This step ensures that all wires are properly fixed and reduces the risk of future disconnections or short circuits.

Match conduit and connector sizes to maintain a secure and code-compliant installation. Avoid over-tightening or under-tightening cable ties and connectors.

Ensure proper grounding for metallic conduits to prevent electrical hazards. By following these steps, you can secure flexible wires in a distribution box safely, maintain organized wiring, and comply with electrical standards.
