Specifications of High-Temperature Temperature Measuring Optical Cable in Thailand

Optical fiber-based Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) systems provide precise, real-time high-temperature monitoring over long distances in Thailand's industrial and utility sectors.

Overview of Optical Cable Temperature Measurement

Optical cable systems, such as DTS and FODTS, use the optical fiber itself as a temperature sensor. Unlike traditional electrical sensors (thermocouples or RTDs), these systems are immune to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio-frequency interference (RFI), making them ideal for high-voltage, magnetic, or electrically noisy environments. The fiber optic cable can measure temperature continuously along its length, providing spatial resolution down to 1 meter and covering distances up to 50 km in some systems.

How the Technology WorksDTS systems operate using Raman or Brillouin scattering principles. A laser pulse is sent through the fiber, and a small fraction of light is scattered back. The intensity ratio of Stokes and anti-Stokes signals depends on the local temperature along the fiber.

The position of the temperature reading is determined by measuring the time it takes for the backscattered light to return, a method known as Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (OTDR) or Optical Frequency Domain Reflectometry (OFDR). This allows for continuous, real-time monitoring of temperature distribution along cables, pipelines, bus ducts, or storage tanks.

Applications in Thailand

These systems are widely used in Thailand for: Power infrastructure: HVDC/HVAC underground cables, bus ducts, transformers, and substations Industrial plants: Monitoring temperature in tunnels, trenches, and large facilities to prevent overheating Data centers: Overhead busways and critical electrical equipment Pipelines and storage tanks: Detecting leaks or abnormal temperature changes over long distances AdvantagesHigh accuracy and fast response: Detects hotspots before they cause shutdowns Long-distance coverage: Single fiber can monitor tens of kilometers Cost-effective: Reduces the need for thousands of individual sensors Durable and safe: Fiber cables are waterproof, anti-tensile, anti-corrosion, and non-conductive Compliance: Systems meet international standards and are suitable for harsh industrial environments Notable Products in ThailandElectherm OSL FODTS: Predictive continuous busduct monitoring with 1-meter resolution Yokogawa DTSX3000: Measures up to 50 km using Raman scattering, ideal for large facilities and pipelines AP Sensing DTS: Provides linear temperature profiles along standard optical fibers for power cables and tunnels Hsensing DTS: Real-time monitoring with metal spiral shielding and halogen-free fiber protection COMEM Fiber Optic Sensors: GaAs crystal-based sensors for high-accuracy measurements in EMI/RFI environments These systems are increasingly adopted in Thailand for preventive maintenance, fire detection, and operational safety, ensuring reliable performance in high-temperature and electrically challenging environments.
