Wiring of Base Station Power Distribution Box

A base station AC distribution box should be wired with proper phase, neutral, and protective devices, ensuring correct cable sizing, grounding, and safety compliance.

Key Components

Main Input Supply: The AC supply (single-phase 230V or three-phase 400V depending on the site) enters the distribution box through a main isolator or main MCB, which acts as the primary switch for the system. Protective Devices: RCCB/RCD: Protects against leakage currents and electric shock. Typically rated at 30mA for single-phase systems.

MC

Bs: Protect individual subcircuits from overcurrent or short circuits.

Single-pole MC

Bs are used for standard loads, while double-pole MCBs may be used for special loads. Neutral and Earth Links: Neutral wires from all subcircuits connect to a neutral bus bar, while all earth connections are bonded to an earth bus bar connected to a ground spike.

Wiring Procedure

Box Installation: Securely mount the distribution box in a dry, accessible location. Circuit Arrangement: Arrange MCBs from left to right, reserving space for future expansion on the right side. Wire Preparation: Strip insulation carefully, ensuring sufficient conductive surface for connections.

Use appropriate wire sizes based on load: typically 2. 5mm² for lighting and sockets, 4mm² for air conditioning or high-power equipment. Phase and Neutral Connections: Connect the incoming phase to the main MCB, then to the RCCB, and distribute to branch MCBs.

Neutral lines connect to the neutral bus bar and then to each subcircuit. Earthing: Connect all equipment and the distribution box metal body to the earth bus bar to maintain 0V potential and safety. Wire Color Coding: Use standard colors for clarity: blue for neutral, red/yellow/green for phases (A/B/C), and green/yellow for earth.

Binding and Routing: Use cable ties to keep wires organized, straight, and free from mechanical stress. Route incoming wires on the left and outgoing wires on the right. Labeling and Safety Checks: Clearly mark AC, DC, and voltage levels.

Perform a safety inspection to check for short circuits, overloads, and proper grounding before energizing the system.

Additional Considerations

For three-phase systems, ensure correct phase sequencing and balance loads across phases to prevent overloading. Use inline fuses or PDBs for sensitive equipment to protect against faults. Maintain adequate spacing between high-power and low-power circuits to reduce interference and heat buildup.

Follow local electrical codes and telecom standards for base station installations to ensure compliance and safety. By following these steps, a base station AC distribution box can be wired safely and efficiently, providing reliable power to all connected equipment while minimizing the risk of electrical hazards.
