Wiring and positioning method for explosion-proof distribution boxes

Explosion-proof distribution boxes must be wired with certified cables, properly grounded, and installed in safe, aligned positions to ensure operational safety in hazardous environments.

Wiring Guidelines

Power Connection: Ensure the main power supply is turned off before wiring to prevent electrical hazards. Connect incoming power cables to the designated terminals for live, neutral, and earth wires, verifying connections with a multimeter or continuity tester. Cable Selection: Use cables rated for hazardous areas (EX or ATEX certified), resistant to flame, impact, and mechanical damage.

Single-core copper wires are commonly used: 6–8 mm² for 380V power lines and 2. 5 mm² for 220V lines, with color coding for phases and ground. Internal Arrangement: Organize components and wiring neatly, label all wires, and ensure insulation is intact.

Separate 380V and 220V supplies for clarity and maintenance ease. Wire Protection and Sealing: Use explosion-proof flexible conduits for exposed connections. Pass inlet and outlet cables through rubber sealing rings, tightened with washers and compression nuts to maintain the enclosure's integrity.

Grounding: Metal cabinets must be reliably grounded. Connect the grounding wire to the cabinet's outer shell, with a minimum cross-sectional area of 4 mm² for three-phase systems. Component Placement: Place internal components, such as frequency converters, near air inlets and away from outlets to optimize cooling and safety.

Positioning and Installation

Foundation and Alignment: Install the box on a prepared foundation, aligning it using a reference line at two-thirds height from the bottom. Adjust with shims if necessary, and secure with bolts and screws. Inclination and Environment: Maintain an installation inclination of no more than 5 degrees.

Position the box away from collision risks, heat sources, and areas prone to moisture or corrosion. For outdoor installations, use a rain cover to prevent water ingress. Safety Precautions: Never open the cover while the power is on.

Protect explosion-proof joint surfaces during maintenance, and apply anti-rust oil after servicing. Only qualified electricians should perform wiring and installation. Testing: After wiring, perform a handover test and trial operation to ensure proper functionality and safety before regular use.

By following these wiring and positioning guidelines, explosion-proof distribution boxes can operate safely and reliably in hazardous environments, minimizing the risk of sparks, electrical faults, or fire hazards.
