Finished Cable and Optical Fiber Models and Specifications

Finished optical fiber cables come in single-mode and multimode types, with various models like OS1, OS2, OM3, OM4, and OM5, each designed for specific distances, bandwidths, and applications.

Single-

Mode Fiber CablesSingle-mode fibers have a small core (~9 microns) allowing only one light mode to propagate, making them ideal for long-distance, high-speed applications. Key models include: OS1: Indoor, short-distance runs; maximum attenuation 0. 4 dB/km at 1310 nm and 0.

3 dB/km at 1550 nm; bandwidth ~200 MHz·km; suitable for distances up to 10 km at 10 Gbps. OS2: Outdoor, long-range connections; maximum attenuation 0. 3 dB/km at 1310/1550 nm; bandwidth ~500 MHz·km; supports distances up to 40 km at 10 Gbps.

Multimode Fiber Cables

Multimode fibers have larger cores (50–62. 5 microns) allowing multiple light modes, suitable for short-distance, cost-effective networks. Common models: OM1: 62.

5 µm core, up to 300 m at 10 Gbps. OM3: 50 µm core, optimized for 10G/40G networks. OM4: Enhanced 50 µm core for higher bandwidth and longer distances than OM3.

OM5: Supports short wavelength division multiplexing (SWDM) for future-proof data center applications.

Cable Configurations

Finished optical fiber cables are available in multiple constructions: Simplex: Single fiber. Duplex: Two fibers. Multifiber: Several fibers in one cable.

Patchcords: Short pre-terminated cables with connectors. Cables may include GIPT constructions (e.g., GIPTDA1 with 1 OM3 fiber, 1. 6 mm diameter) and can be customized for marine, wind, or industrial applications.

Standard features include color-coded fibers, sheath markings, and environmental protections like water-blocking and UV resistance.

Connectors and Terminations

Finished cables can be equipped with various connectors: Biconic: Precision tapered ends for low insertion loss. D4: Composite zirconia ferrules for durability and repeatable connections.

Standards and Testing

Finished optical fiber cables comply with international standards such as ISO/IEC 11801, IEC 60793, ITU-T G. 652/G. 657, and undergo insertion loss and return loss testing to ensure performance.

Typical service life is 25 years, with mechanical and environmental performance validated under standard conditions. These specifications allow users to select cables based on distance, bandwidth, environmental conditions, and application requirements, ensuring reliable and high-performance optical networks.
