Ivory Coast Unicom Network Rack Configuration

UNICOM network racks are configured using standard 19" racks, with devices like UNI-COM-II adapters mounted in industrial metal cases, properly grounded, and connected via shielded cables following RS232/RS422/RS485 or TTY interfaces. Rack Layout and Device PlacementUNICOM devices, such as the UNI-COM-II adapter, are designed for cabinet or panel mounting in a 19" rack. Each device is housed in an industrial metal case and should be grounded using the provided ground lug to ensure safe operation in industrial environments ( ).

The rack should allow easy access to power supply connections (24V DC) and interface ports, with clear labeling for each device.

Cabling and Interface Connections

Interface Types: UNI-COM-II supports RS232, RS422/RS485 (four-wire), TTY, and SINEC-L1 connections, all galvanically isolated for safety ( ). Cable Requirements: Use shielded cables for all interface lines. For RS232 connections to PCs, a 2-to-3 and 3-to-2 crossover cable is required ( ).

Termination Standards: For UTP cabling (Cat 5e/6), follow 568A or 568B wiring standards. Pairs should be untwisted no more than ½" from the termination point, and a punch-down tool should be used to secure wires into jacks ( ).

Power and Grounding

Ensure correct polarity when connecting the 24V DC power supply. Ground all devices using the metal case ground lug to prevent electrical interference and ensure safety ( ).

Rack Planning Tools

For designing and visualizing the network rack, you can use free online 19" rack planning tools such as the PATCHBOX Network Rack Planner. This allows you to create, configure, and export a rack diagram, helping to plan device placement, cabling, and airflow ( ).

Best Practices

Maintain at least a 1" bend radius for cables to avoid signal degradation ( ). Avoid pinching or twisting cables during installation. Verify firmware versions for each UNICOM device before installation to prevent operational issues ( ).

Use LE

D indicators on adapters to monitor signal direction and data transfer status ( ). By following these guidelines, you can configure a reliable and organized UNICOM network rack suitable for industrial or telecom environments, including Ivory Coast deployments.
