Treatment methods for galvanized cable trays

Galvanized cable trays can be treated using hot-dip galvanization, electro-galvanization, powder coating, painting, and hybrid resin coatings to enhance corrosion resistance and durability.

Hot-

Dip GalvanizationHot-dip galvanization involves immersing the steel cable tray in molten zinc, forming a robust zinc-iron alloy coating that provides long-lasting corrosion protection. This method is highly effective in aggressive environments and is suitable for large structural components. Hot-dip galvanization can be applied pre-manufacture (pre-galv) or post-manufacture (post-galv), with thicker coatings offering longer service life.

It is less suitable for small parts or fasteners due to variable coating thickness. Electro-GalvanizationElectro-galvanization uses electrolysis to deposit a thin zinc layer on the tray surface. While it provides less corrosion resistance than hot-dip galvanization, it is ideal for smaller components, threaded items, or areas requiring precise coating thickness.

This method is often used in combination with other protective coatings.

Powder Coating

Powder coating is an environmentally friendly method where powdered paint is sprayed onto the tray and cured at high temperatures to form a durable protective layer. It enhances both corrosion resistance and aesthetics, making it suitable for indoor and outdoor applications, including chemically aggressive or saline environments. Powder coating can be applied over galvanized steel to extend service life.

Painting

Painting provides a protective barrier and allows color customization. Common options include epoxy paint for chemical resistance and polyurethane paint for weather resistance. Painting is particularly useful when aesthetics are important, and it can be applied over galvanized surfaces to further reduce corrosion risk.

Hybrid Resin Coatings

Hybrid epoxy-polyester or polyester resin coatings are applied on sendzimir galvanized steel or base steel after degreasing and phosphating. These coatings, cured at high temperatures, provide excellent adherence, UV resistance, and protection in humid, chemical, or saline environments.

Additional Considerations

Zinc Alloy Coatings: Modern alternatives like ZnAl, ZnMg, and ZnNi alloys offer enhanced corrosion resistance compared to traditional zinc coatings. Edge and Hole Protection: Proper galvanization ensures that punched holes and sheared edges are protected against corrosion, preventing weak points in the tray. Custom Treatments: Cable trays can be treated with nickel-zinc plating, cold zinc dipping, or alloy coatings depending on environmental requirements.

By selecting the appropriate combination of galvanization and surface treatment, cable trays can achieve maximum durability, corrosion resistance, and aesthetic appeal, tailored to the specific installation environment.
