Connect the socket wire to the distribution box

To connect a socket wire to a distribution box, you must safely route the phase, neutral, and earth wires to the appropriate MCB and link terminals, ensuring proper insulation and secure connections.

Safety First

Before starting, turn off the main power supply to prevent electrical shock. Ensure the distribution box is securely mounted at an accessible height and the installation area is free of obstructions.

Wire Selection

Socket circuits typically use 2. 5mm² wires for domestic loads. Ensure the wire insulation is intact and suitable for the voltage and current rating of the circuit.

Connection Steps

Identify Input and Output Terminals: The phase (live) and neutral wires from the main supply are connected to the Main MCB or isolator. The output of the Main MCB is connected to the RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker) for protection against leakage and electric shock. Connect the Socket Circuit: From the RCCB output, connect the phase wire to the input terminal of the MCB assigned for the socket circuit.

Connect the neutral wire to the neutral link in the distribution box. Connect the earth wire to the earth link, which should be properly earthed to the earth pit or rod. Secure and Organize Wires: Use plastic ties to bind wires neatly, keeping them straight and avoiding overlaps.

Clearly mark each wire for identification, especially if multiple circuits are present. Verify Connections: After wiring, use a multimeter to check for continuity, correct voltage, and absence of short circuits. Ensure all connections are tight and no bare wires are exposed.

Additional Tips

Avoid overloading the MCB by connecting more sockets than the rated capacity.

Ensure the RCC

B rating matches the Main MCB to provide proper protection. Proper earthing is essential for safety and to prevent electric shock. By following these steps, the socket wire will be safely and correctly connected to the distribution box, ensuring reliable power distribution and protection for the circuit.
