Protection Relays Medium And High Voltage Power System Protection

High Voltage Busbar Overvoltage Protection

This technical article discusses criteria and requirements for designing protection systems for busbars in HV/EHV networks. Busbars in power systems are the location where transmission lines, generation sources, and distribution loads converge. Because of this convergence, short circuits located on or near the busbar tend to have very high magnitude currents. The high magnitude fault currents require high-speed. Even if distance protection is used for all utility feeders, the busbar will be located in the second protection zone of all the distance protections, so a bus short circuit will be slowly cleared, and the resultant voltage dip may not be permissible. In fact, a great proportion of busbar faults are caused by human error rather than the failure of switchgear components. With totally. As an engineering service provider, M.
