Subcarrier Multiplexing Scm

Subcarrier Multiplexing Fiber Optic Communication

Subcarrier Multiplexing (SCM) is a method for combining (multiplexing) many different communications signals so that they can be transmitted along a single optical fiber. A significant ad-vantage of SCM is that microwave devices are more mature than optical devices; the stability of a microwave oscillator. Because of its potential advantages in realizing low cost broadband access networks, subcarrier mul-tiplexing (SCM) with the help of lightwave techniques continues to be an area of active research. The total bandwidth is limited to well below 1 GHz when coaxial cables.
