Single-mode fiber optic 4-core model designation

The 4-core single-mode fiber optic cable is commonly designated as GYFZY.

Model Designation and Construction

The GYFZ

Y model refers to a 4-core single-mode fiber cable with the following construction features: Loose tube design: Fibers are housed in jelly-filled tubes for protection against moisture and mechanical stress. Central strength member: Non-metallic core provides tensile strength. Water-blocking elements: Includes water-blocking yarns, tape, and mica tape to prevent water ingress.

Outer sheath: LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) with two red strips for identification. Fiber color coding: Each fiber in the tube is color-coded starting from Blue for easy identification.

Fiber Characteristics

Core type: Single-mode fiber, typically 9 µm core diameter, supporting a single light path for long-distance, high-speed transmission. Attenuation: Minimal loss, with typical values ≤0. 3 dB/km at 1550 nm wavelength.

Strain tolerance: Fiber strain ≤0. 6% without breakage or sheath damage. Loss change: ≤0.

1 dB at 1550 nm under mechanical stress. ApplicationsLong-distance communication: Ideal for telecom backbones, campus networks, and inter-building links. High-speed data transmission: Supports 10 Gbps and higher over distances up to 10 km (OS1) or longer for OS2 fibers.

Indoor and outdoor deployment: Suitable for environments requiring water-blocking and mechanical protection.

Single-

Mode Fiber TypesOS1: Standard single-mode fiber, suitable for indoor applications with moderate distances. OS2: Low-water peak, higher-performance single-mode fiber for long-haul and outdoor applications. In summary, the GYFZY 4-core single-mode fiber cable is a loose-tube, water-blocked, LSZH-sheathed cable designed for high-performance, long-distance optical communication, with each fiber color-coded for easy identification.

In fiber optics, a quadruply clad fiber is a single-mode optical fiber that has four claddings. Each cladding has a refractive index lower than that of the core. With respect to one another, their relative refractive indices are, in order of distance from the core: lowest, highest, lower, higher. A quadruply clad fiber has the advantage of very low macrobending losses. It also has two zero-dispersion points, and moderately low dispersion over a wider wavelength range than a singly clad fiber

Fiber Type: Identifying Installed Fiber Optic Cables

These measurements are not the actual outer diameter of the cable; they correspond directly to the optical fiber itself. This notation indicates that you are looking at either OM2, OM3, or OM4, as they

Fiber Optic Cable Types – Multimode and Single Mode

Single Mode fibers are identified by the designation OS or Optical Single-mode Fiber. Single Mode cable has a much smaller core (8-9um) than multimode cable and uses a single path (mode) to carry the light.
