Energy-efficient solutions for fiber optic arrays

This article explores the latest research and advancements in energy-saving technologies for optical devices, specifically focusing on Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFAs) and optical switches in fiber optic networks. With the growing global deployment of Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) networks driven by the demand for ensuring high-capacity broadband services, mobile network operators (MNOs) face challenges of excessive energy consumption (EC) of wired optical access networks (OANs). Optical switches with liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) mirrors shrink data packets down to size so the network can carry more data, while signals are distributed across different fiber. This article proposes a fiber array energy transmission system using Dammann grating coupling for high-power fundamental-mode Gaussian light and presents a parameter design method to achieve efficient coupling by addressing the specific requirements of fiber arrays. The study addresses the problem that conventional static and semi-dynamic control methods are unable to simultaneously ensure energy.
